Understanding God's Jealousy

The concept of jealousy in the Bible is often misunderstood, as it has acquired an exclusively bad meaning in modern English. However, in the biblical context, jealousy refers to an activity, specifically God's desire to protect His own honor. This is evident in the phrase "The Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God" (Ex. 34:14). God's jealousy is not a petty or selfish emotion, but rather a holy and personal element that reveals His regard for His holy name, will, and government.

God's Jealousy and Human Relationships

God's jealousy is closely tied to His sovereignty and righteousness. As a jealous God, He seeks to protect His people from idolatry and false worship, which would undermine His authority and relationship with them.
