The Mystery of Suffering: Why Did God Allow Terminal Cancer?

The question of why God allowed terminal cancer is a complex and difficult one to answer. From a biblical perspective, we can't always understand why God allows suffering in our lives. The Bible says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that God's ways and thoughts are not always understandable to us, and we must trust in His sovereignty and goodness.

In the case of terminal cancer, it's possible that God allowed it to bring about a greater good, even if we can't see it. The Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This doesn't mean that God causes evil or suffering, but that He can bring good out of it. Perhaps the terminal cancer was a way for God to draw you closer to Him, to bring you to a place of dependence on Him, or to give you an opportunity to share your faith with others. We can't know for sure, but we can trust that God is working all things together for our good.

Ultimately, the question of why God allowed terminal cancer is not as important as how we respond to it. The Bible says, "We do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day" (2 Corinthians 4:16). We can choose to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even in the midst of suffering. We can choose to look to Him for comfort, strength, and guidance. And we can choose to use our suffering to glorify God and bring Him glory. As the Bible says, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28).
