Trusting in the Sovereign God

When considering the question of trusting an investment advisor, it is essential to recognize that true trust can only be found in a sovereign God. As the Bible teaches, "If you seek him, you can experience more peace, less doubt, and less fear because your trust is securely anchored in Him" (Isaiah 50:10-11). This means that our trust should not be placed in human advisors, no matter how skilled or experienced they may be. Instead, we should seek to trust in the Lord, who is our Rock and our Salvation.

The Problem with Human Trust

When we trust in human advisors, we inevitably face problems. If we trust in our investment advisor, but they fail us, our trust is shaken. If they lie to us or fail to deliver on their promises, our trust is broken. This is because human trust is based on probabilities and likelihoods, rather than certainty. As the Bible says, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). Human advisors are fallible and can make mistakes, which can lead to loss and disappointment.

Trusting in God's Sovereignty

In contrast, trusting in the sovereign God is a different matter altogether. When we trust in God, we can experience true peace, less doubt, and less fear. This is because our trust is securely anchored in Him, who is all-knowing, all-powerful, and always faithful. As the Bible says, "My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). When we trust in God, we can be confident that He is working all things together for our good, even in difficult circumstances. This should greatly increase our trust in Him, especially in times of uncertainty and doubt. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). By trusting in the sovereign God, we can experience true peace and confidence, even in the midst of uncertainty and doubt.
