Biblical Answer

As I reflect on the question of why God allows suffering, I'm reminded of a passage from the book of Job where Job's friends try to make sense of his suffering. They suggest that God must be punishing Job for some unknown sin, but Job argues that he has lived a righteous life and doesn't know why he's suffering. In the end, Job comes to realize that his relationship with God is what truly matters, and that his sufferings have actually drawn him closer to God.

As a pastor, I've seen this play out in the lives of many people. We often think that God should shield us from troubles and difficulties, but the truth is that He uses these experiences to grow us and draw us closer to Himself. In fact, the Bible says that God sometimes allows us to face our inadequacies and weaknesses so that we'll cling to Him more closely. This is a hard truth to accept, but it's a reminder that God's ways are not our ways, and that He sees the big picture in a way that we can't.

In my own life, I've seen God work in ways that I couldn't understand, but that ultimately brought Him glory and brought me closer to Him. As a Cubs fan, I've learned to trust in God's sovereignty even when my team doesn't win. And as a husband and father, I've seen God work in my family in ways that I couldn't have planned or anticipated. So even when we don't understand why God allows suffering, we can trust that He is working all things together for our good and for His glory.
