Biblical Answer

As a pastor, I've come to realize that when one is too sick to care for their family, it's not just about the family's well-being, but also about the individual's relationship with God. The Bible teaches us that caring for the sick is not just an act of kindness, but an evidence of a higher calling - the gospel. It's a reminder that our ultimate liberation comes not from the eradication of disease or poverty, but from our relationship with God.

In such situations, I believe it's essential to call upon the elders of the church to pray over the sick individual, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. This is not a replacement for medical care, but rather a spiritual response to the individual's suffering. The prayer of faith can indeed bring healing, and the Lord will raise them up (James 5:14-15). As a Christian, I've seen God's healing power at work in many lives, and I have no doubt that He can heal even the most chronic illnesses.

However, it's also crucial to recognize that God's will is not always for us to be well. Sometimes, we may be called to suffer for a greater purpose, and our suffering can be a means of drawing us closer to God. In such cases, our role as caregivers is not to try to fix the problem, but to support and comfort the individual in their suffering. Ultimately, our care for the sick is not about us, but about God's will being done in their lives.
