The Battle for Your Mind

The question "What's the point of fighting if I'm just going to lose?" reveals a mindset that is more concerned with avoiding conflict than with spiritual growth. However, the Bible teaches that spiritual growth requires a willingness to engage in spiritual warfare. As Romans 12:2 reminds us, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind" (NIV). The battle for your life is fought and won in your mind. It is essential to take control of your mind, in Jesus' name, through the power of His Holy Spirit.

Understanding Spiritual Warfare

Spiritual warfare is not about winning or losing in the external world; it's about engaging the opposition in every facet of life, including your mind. The Enemy, Satan, seeks to outwait and outmaneuver you, but God is with you, and He has established a beachhead of victory through Christ. As 1 John 4:4 says, "Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world" (NIV). To engage in spiritual warfare effectively, you must be willing to fight the battle before God, not just in the external world. This means getting alone with God, doing battle before Him, and settling the matter once and for all.

The Importance of Perseverance

Perseverance is crucial in spiritual warfare. The Bible teaches that we must endure hardship with perseverance, just like a good soldier of Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:3). Martin Luther called depression and anxiety "the enemy's spear." However, with God's help, we can overcome these obstacles. The key is to remember that our victory lap is in heaven, not on this earth. We may not win every battle, but with God on our side, we can overcome any opposition. As Psalm 28:7 says, "The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped" (ESV). By trusting in God's strength and shield, we can persevere in spiritual warfare and emerge victorious.
