Your Question:

Why is God allowing me to suffer so much when I'm trying to do the right thing?

Answer:

My friend, I understand your frustration and anger towards God when you're going through suffering. It's natural to feel that way, especially when you're trying to do the right thing. But as I've come to realize through my own experiences as a pastor, God's ways are not our ways. He sees the bigger picture, and His reasons for allowing us to suffer are often inscrutable to us.

But what I've learned is that God's perfect goodness doesn't preclude Him from permitting us to suffer. In fact, He might even allow us to suffer so that we can gain intellectual mastery over certain events, or so that we can trust Him more deeply. It's not that our suffering contributes to our own improvement, but rather that it can be turned to our own good, even if we don't see it at the time. This is a difficult truth to accept, but it's one that I've come to understand through my own struggles.

As I read in 1 Peter 4:13, "But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." Our suffering can be a means of transformation, of being made more like Christ. It's not always easy to see, but it's a part of the process of being conformed to His image. So, I encourage you to trust in God's goodness, even when you don't understand why you're suffering. And when you're tempted to give up, remember that God is working in you, even when you can't see it.
