The question of how we balance our duty to serve with our personal values is a complex one. The Source of Our Values

Balancing Duty and Values

So how do we balance our duty to serve with our personal values? The answer is that we must surrender our self-centeredness and become others-centered. This means that we must prioritize the needs of others over our own needs and desires. It means that we must be willing to serve in ways that are uncomfortable and challenging, even when it is difficult to see the situation clearly. It means that we must be willing to give what we have, even when it feels like we are giving up something precious. This is the way of Jesus, who came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. As we follow Jesus' example, we will find that our values and our sense of duty are not in conflict, but are actually aligned and working together to bring about God's purposes in the world.
