Why did God let me lose everything?
Why did God let me lose everything?
The question of why God allows us to experience loss and suffering is a complex one. It's natural to feel that God is distant or unloving when we face difficult circumstances. However, the Bible teaches us that God's sovereignty and love are not mutually exclusive. In fact, God's love for us is often revealed in the midst of suffering. The apostle Paul writes, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). This doesn't mean that suffering is pleasant or desirable, but it can be an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and trust in God.
It's also possible that God allowed us to lose everything because He wants to teach us to depend on Him more. As the Bible says, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46). Jesus, who is God in the flesh, asked this question as He bore the weight of our sins on the cross. He didn't ask it because He was being punished, but because He was taking full responsibility for our sins and surrendering Himself to the Father's will. In the same way, God may be allowing us to experience loss so that we can learn to surrender our own wills and trust in His sovereignty.
Rather than asking why God let us lose everything, we should ask why we were so focused on our own desires and expectations in the first place. As the Bible says, "God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine" (Ephesians 3:20). Perhaps God was trying to teach us to trust in His goodness and love, even when things don't go as we planned. As we learn to trust in God's sovereignty, we can begin to see that He is working everything out for our good, even when it doesn't feel like it. As the psalmist writes, "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand" (Psalm 16:11). God's love and goodness are not limited by our circumstances, and He is always working to bring us closer to Himself.
