The Purpose of Life: A Christian Perspective

The question of the purpose of life is a fundamental one that has puzzled humans for centuries. From an evangelical Christian perspective, the answer to this question is rooted in the Bible and the person of Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, God created humanity in His own image and for His own purpose (Genesis 1:27). This purpose is not just to exist, but to live a life that reflects God's character and values.

The purpose of life is not something that we can discover on our own, but rather it is something that God reveals to us through His Word and through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This verse suggests that our purpose in life is to do good works that God has prepared for us, and that this purpose is rooted in our relationship with Jesus Christ.

In the face of suffering, disability, or adversity, it is easy to wonder if there is still a purpose to life. But from a Christian perspective, the answer is a resounding "yes." As the psalmist wrote, "Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will restore my life again and bring me up again from the depths of the earth" (Psalm 138:8). This verse suggests that even in the midst of difficulty, God is still working to restore and redeem us, and that our purpose in life is still to live a life that reflects God's character and values. Ultimately, the purpose of life is to glorify God and to enjoy a personal relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. As the Bible says, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" (1 Corinthians 13:13). May we live our lives in a way that reflects this greatest of virtues.
