Can we balance our personal goals with our responsibilities?
Balancing Personal Goals with Responsibilities
As followers of Jesus Christ, we must navigate the delicate balance between our personal goals and our responsibilities. The Bible teaches us that our values and goals should be aligned with God's purposes and will. In Matthew 6:33, Jesus says, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." This verse emphasizes the importance of prioritizing our relationship with God and living according to His values.
To achieve this balance, we must regularly examine our values and goals to ensure they align with Scripture. We must ask ourselves, "Are my values and goals helping or hindering me in achieving my goal of pleasing God?" (Romans 12:2). We must also consider whether our goals are driven by a desire to please God or by other motivations. As the Bible says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). Our primary goal should be to please God and to be acceptable to Him, not to achieve some other goal, no matter how lofty it may sound.
In addition to examining our values and goals, we must also create space in our lives to focus on what is truly important. As the Bible says, "For every day you get up you answer the question of whether there are objective moral values and duties by how you live" (Matthew 5:17). We must prioritize our relationship with God and live according to His values, even if it means doing less of other things. By focusing on what is truly important and creating margin in our lives, we can achieve a balance between our personal goals and our responsibilities and live a life that reflects our commitment to Jesus Christ. Ultimately, our goal should be to please God and to live a life that honors Him, not to achieve some other goal. As the Bible says, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37).
