What's the difference between a good deed and a selfish act?

Defining Good and Selfish

From a biblical perspective, a good deed is an act that is motivated by a desire to serve and honor God, and to love and care for others. On the other hand, a selfish act is one that is motivated by a desire to satisfy one's own needs, desires, or interests, regardless of how it may affect others. This distinction is rooted in the biblical teaching that we are to "regard one another as more important than [ourselves]" (Phil. 2:3 NASB), and that we are to "do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit" (Phil. 2:3 NASB).

The Purpose of Good Deeds

Good deeds are done for the benefit of others, and are motivated by a desire to please God and to demonstrate love and care for those in need. They are not done for personal gain or recognition, but rather for the sake of others. In contrast, selfish acts are done for personal gain or satisfaction, and are often motivated by a desire for power, status, or material possessions.
