Can I still have a sense of hope in the midst of all this pain?
Hope is distinctly human, and it is a fundamental part of our existence (We Are People Who Hope). It is what allows us to look forward to the future and anticipate good things (earnestly pray you not to be grieved beyond measure.... If the Lord had wished us to live together longer, He could easily have caused it to be so.. . . Let His good will be done, then, and let that suffice for). However, hope can be painful and hurtful, especially when our dreams and expectations are dashed (Hope Deferred). It makes sense to either kill it or let it die of natural causes, especially when we feel that hope has given us as much pain as we can handle (either way, you feel that hope has given you as much pain as you can handle).
But is it really necessary to kill hope or let it die? Not necessarily. In fact, the Bible teaches us that hope is not just a human emotion, but a gift from God that can give us strength and comfort in the midst of suffering (Psalm 130). God has moved toward us and taken the initiative to forgive our sins, and He can also give us hope in the midst of pain. In fact, the Bible says, "Look to Me ... Salvation is yours the moment you look" (January 23). This means that we don't have to wait for our circumstances to change before we can experience hope. We can look to God and find hope in Him, even in the midst of pain and suffering.
So, can I still have a sense of hope in the midst of all this pain? Yes, I can. In fact, I must. Hope is not just a feeling or an emotion, but a choice that I can make. I can choose to look to God and find hope in Him, even when everything around me seems to be falling apart. And when I do, I will find that hope is not just a fleeting feeling, but a deep and abiding sense of peace and comfort that can sustain me through even the darkest of times. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" (Jeremiah 29:11). I can choose to trust in those plans and find hope in God, even in the midst of pain.
