Why Did God Take My Business?
The question of why God took your business is a question that many people face, including Job in the Old Testament. Job did not understand why God took his business, and neither did his children. Job's children were concerned that Job must have sinned, but God appeared to Job and said, "I will not charge you with wrong" (Job 2:6). God does not owe us an explanation for why He takes our business or allows us to experience suffering. Our relationship with God is on a friend-to-friend basis, not an employee-to-employer basis. He died for his enemies, although he would get nothing from them.
The question of why God took your business is also a question of trust. When we are faced with the loss of our business, we may feel like we are being punished or that God is not good. But God's purpose is not to punish us, but to produce the finished product of a life that is surrendered to Him. As Mr. Whittemore said, "God doesn't want you to achieve great things in His name, Jerry. He just wants you to love Him, to trust Him, to wait upon Him, and to praise Him. Then He can do what He desires through you!" When we learn to trust God and love Him for who He is, we will no longer strive to understand why He takes our business or allows us to experience suffering.
The truth is, God does not need our business or our success. He has all the resources in the world, and He can do anything that needs to get done. But when we properly offer our money, our time, and our talents to God, we magnify Him, which is worshiping Him. God's purpose is to use us as He used His own Son, to bring glory to Himself and to fulfill His purposes. When we surrender to God's purposes and trust Him to work through us, we will no longer ask why He took our business, but we will praise Him for who He is and what He is doing in our lives.
