Understanding the Purpose of God

The Bible teaches that God created us to fulfill a purpose, and that purpose is to glorify and enjoy Him (Psalm 16:11, 1 Corinthians 10:31). This purpose is not just about doing good things or achieving success, but about living a life that is pleasing to God. When we lose our business or sense of purpose, it can be a challenging experience, but it can also be an opportunity to re-evaluate our priorities and refocus on what truly matters.

Re-evaluating Priorities and Focusing on God

When we lose our business or sense of purpose, it can be tempting to try to find a new sense of purpose through our own efforts. However, the Bible teaches that our purpose is not something we can achieve through our own strength or abilities, but rather through dependence on God. As the apostle Paul wrote, "I can do all this through him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:13). This means that we need to update our life plan and commit ourselves to meeting God daily in prayer and reading His Word. By doing so, we can find a new sense of purpose and direction that is rooted in God's plan for our lives.

Embracing the Sovereignty of God

The Bible also teaches that God is sovereign over all of creation, and that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28). This means that even when we lose our business or sense of purpose, God is still working in our lives to bring about His purposes. As the prophet Isaiah wrote, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Isaiah 41:9). By embracing the sovereignty of God, we can trust that He is working in our lives, even when we don't understand what's happening. This can give us the peace and confidence we need to navigate difficult circumstances and find a new sense of purpose and direction.
