Understanding God's Sovereignty

When we ask why God took away our child, we are, in essence, asking why He allowed a particular event to occur. This question is rooted in a desire to understand God's sovereignty over our lives and the lives of those we love. However, the Bible teaches that God's sovereignty is not something we can fully comprehend (Romans 11:33-36). He is the all-powerful, all-knowing God who works all things according to His will (Ephesians 1:11). While we may not understand why God allowed our child to pass away, we can trust that He is good and loving (Psalm 107:1).

The Nature of God's Love

God's love is not a sentimental or emotional response to our circumstances. Rather, it is a deep and abiding love that is rooted in His character and nature. As the Bible says, "God is love" (1 John 4:8). This love is not based on our worthiness or our behavior, but rather on God's own character. When we pray for our children, we are praying that God will bless them and use them for His glory. However, we must also remember that God's ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). We cannot assume that God's response to our prayers will be what we expect or desire.

Finding Comfort in God's Presence

When we lose a child, it can be a devastating experience that leaves us feeling lost and alone. However, the Bible teaches us that we are not alone in our grief. God is present with us, and He is a comfort to us in our time of need (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). We can find comfort in the fact that our child is now with the Lord, and that they are experiencing the fullness of His love and presence. As the Bible says, "I will go to him, but he will not return to me" (Job 14:14). While we may not understand why God took away our child, we can trust that He is good and loving, and that He is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28).
