What's the purpose of life if I'm just going to end up in a nursing home?
According to the Bible, the major purpose of your life is not just to enjoy life or to achieve certain goals, but to live a life that honors and glorifies God. As the Bible says, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them" (Ephesians 2:10). This means that our purpose in life is to fulfill the good works that God has prepared for us, which are centered around loving and serving Him.
The problem with living life solely for personal happiness or achievements is that it is fleeting and temporary. As the Bible says, "Chasing after wind" is a futile pursuit that leads to emptiness and despair (Ecclesiastes 1:14). This is because our lives are short and our time on earth is limited. We may achieve great things, but they will eventually pass away, leaving us with nothing but memories. In contrast, a life lived for God is a life that has eternal significance and purpose.
So, what's the purpose of life if we're just going to end up in a nursing home? The answer is that we should live our lives with the understanding that we are not just living for the present, but for eternity. As the Bible says, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). This means that we should live our lives with the hope of eternal life with God, and not just for the fleeting pleasures of this world. By living a life that honors God and fulfills His purposes, we can find true purpose and meaning, even in the face of aging and eventual death. This is the solution to the problem of transient pursuits and the fleeting nature of human life. It is a life that is lived with the understanding that we are not just living for ourselves, but for God and for eternity.
