Can I still have a good life with a terminal illness?

While a terminal illness may bring significant challenges and difficulties, it is not a guarantee that a person's life will be devoid of joy, purpose, and meaning. In fact, many people have found that their faith in God has deepened and their sense of purpose has been clarified during times of illness. As the Bible teaches, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). This verse reminds us that even in the midst of suffering, God is working all things together for our good.

Moreover, a terminal illness can be an opportunity for growth in our relationship with God. As one author notes, "change your life because you meet God in a new way." In other words, our experiences of suffering can lead us to a deeper understanding and dependence on God. This can be a transformative experience that brings new joy and purpose to our lives. As Jesus said, "Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed" (John 20:29). In other words, even when we are not seeing the physical healing we desire, we can still have a deep sense of joy and peace in our relationship with God.

Ultimately, whether or not we have a good life with a terminal illness depends on our perspective and our relationship with God. If we focus on our suffering and our fears, we may feel that our life is not worth living. But if we focus on our relationship with God and the promises He has made to us, we can find joy, purpose, and meaning even in the midst of suffering. As the Bible says, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands" (Psalm 138:8). In other words, even when we are facing a terminal illness, we can still trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and find joy and purpose in our relationship with Him.
