The Importance of Showing Kindness

Showing kindness to those around us is a vital aspect of living a life that reflects Christian values and teachings. When we are feeling isolated, it can be challenging to muster the energy to be kind to others. However, as Jesus taught, we should act as if we love our neighbor, even when we don't feel like it (Matthew 22:39). This means putting on a friendly manner and behaving as if we were a nicer person than we actually are (Proverbs 14:21). By doing so, we can often find ourselves genuinely feeling friendlier and more loving towards others.

Practicing Kindness in Everyday Life

In our daily interactions with others, we can show kindness by being genuinely interested in their lives, listening to them, and offering a helping hand. We can greet them with a smile, pray for them, and touch their hearts with a hug. As Virginia Satir's study suggests, people need at least twelve hugs a day to grow and thrive. By being spontaneous givers and showing kindness to those in need, we can demonstrate the love and compassion of God. We should not wait for others to initiate kindness, but rather take the initiative to show kindness and love towards them.

When we show kindness to others, it can have a profound impact on our relationships. By being consistent, loving, humble, and honest, we can build strong and meaningful relationships with others. As C.S. Lewis said, "Do not waste time bothering whether you love your neighbor; act as if you did."
