Biblical Answer

The Bible teaches that God forgives all sins, but it also teaches that God does not forgive without repentance. The Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). This means that God will forgive us when we sincerely repent and confess our sins. However, God does not forgive those who remain impenitent and refuse to confess their sins.

The Bible also teaches that God's forgiveness is a divine prerogative, and that He alone has the right to forgive sins. Jesus, as the Son of God, had this right and exercised it when He forgave sins (Mark 2:5-12). The Pharisees noticed that Jesus unhesitatingly assumed this right and declared sins forgiven, and actually forgave them (Luke 5:20-24). This is consistent with New Testament teaching that God's grace can forgive all sins, no matter how many and how great they are.

The Bible teaches that God's forgiveness is not automatic, but rather it is a function of His righteousness. God's forgiveness is not a result of human works or merit, but rather it is a gift of His grace. The Bible says, "For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy" (Hebrews 10:14). This means that God's forgiveness is secure for those who have trusted in Christ, and that it is possible for God to forgive sins without a breakdown of the moral fiber of the universe. The Bible also teaches that God's forgiveness is not limited to outward sins, but also includes inward sins, such as selfish anger and pride. God delights in forgiving us because His forgiveness demonstrates that He is truly the Holy God who doesn't treat us as we deserve.
