Why did I have to lose my home when I'm supposed to be secure?
The Reality of Life
You are right to feel secure in your home, but the truth is that no one is completely safe. Even if your wealth and possessions do manage to last, you will not. You will never see a hearse pulling a U-Haul. Accidents, diseases, evil, violence, and destruction can bring harm to our lives, and few places are completely safe anymore, including your own home. God has said that even though the wicked may watch, He will not allow them to enter your home as an intruder. You are the inhabitant, not the intruder, in your own home.
The Transience of Material Wealth
You may have a house that is immune to natural disasters, but that does not mean you are completely secure. Your wealth and possessions may last, but you will not. You will not see a hearse pulling a U-Haul, but you will face the end of your life. This is a reality that we must face, and it is a reminder that our focus should not be on material wealth, but on our relationship with God. The Bible teaches us that our true home is in heaven, not on earth (Hebrews 13:14).
Finding Security in God
So, why did I have to lose my home? Perhaps it was not the house that was the problem, but my own lack of faith and trust in God. The Bible teaches us that our security comes not from our possessions or our wealth, but from our relationship with God. When we put our trust in Him, we can face any challenge that comes our way. As the psalmist wrote, "The Lord will keep you from all harm—He will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore" (Psalm 121:7-8). May we learn to trust in God and find our security in Him, rather than in our material possessions. As the Bible says, "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven" (Matthew 6:19-20). Amen.
