Your Question:

why does god seem so unfair?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've encountered many people who struggle with the idea that God seems unfair. They may feel that God is not treating them justly, or that He's not intervening in their lives as they'd like Him to. But I believe that this perspective is rooted in a misunderstanding of God's nature and character. God is not obligated to explain Himself to us or to justify His actions to us. He is the Creator, and we are the creatures. He has the right to govern the world as He sees fit, and we must trust in His goodness and wisdom.

When we complain about God's unfairness, we're often revealing our own sense of entitlement and self-righteousness. We expect God to treat us differently because we've done the right thing, or because we feel we deserve it. But this is a form of legalism, where we try to earn God's favor or reward based on our own merits. The truth is that God's justice is not based on our performance, but on His own character and standards. He is a God of justice and righteousness, and He will ultimately right all wrongs and give fair rewards and punishments.

As I reflect on my own life and experiences, I'm reminded of the story of Job, who suffered greatly despite his faithfulness to God. Yet Job refused to turn against God, and instead said, "The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." (Job 1:21) This is a remarkable example of trust and faith in the face of adversity. As Christians, we must learn to trust in God's goodness and justice, even when we don't understand what's happening. We can leave our concerns and injustices in His hands, knowing that He will ultimately right all wrongs and give fair rewards and punishments.
