Your Question:
Can I still be a good person if I'm not a good parent?
Answer:
As a pastor and a father of two, I've come to realize that being a good person and a good parent are not mutually exclusive. In fact, being a good parent is a crucial aspect of being a good person. When we prioritize our children's well-being and teach them values such as honesty, kindness, and respect, we are modeling behavior that is pleasing to God. As it says in Ephesians 6:4, "Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Of course, no parent is perfect, and we will all make mistakes along the way. But it's how we respond to those mistakes that matters. As the Bible reminds us, "Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6). This means that we must be intentional about teaching our children the ways of God and modeling behavior that is pleasing to Him. Ultimately, being a good person and a good parent is not about being perfect; it's about being intentional and striving to do what is right in the eyes of God. As I've learned from my own experiences as a parent, it's okay to make mistakes and ask for forgiveness. What's important is that we are willing to learn from those mistakes and continue to seek God's guidance and wisdom in our parenting journey.
