Biblical Answer

He is not silent. The reason we have the answer is because the infinite-personal God, the full Trinitarian God, has not been silent. He has told us who He is. God's Word is a megaphone to rouse a deaf world. He speaks to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains. However, we often prefer to listen to His servants rather than to Him. We like to listen to personal testimonies, but we don't want God Himself to speak to us. We are terrified of God speaking to us because oneness with God requires us to listen to His voice, and if we are not sensitive enough to detect His voice, we will quench it, and our spiritual life will suffer.

The psalmist's lament in Psalm 22 begins with an invocation and a call to God for help, asking Him to hear his prayer and act on it. He is not at home, not near Jerusalem, and feels abandoned by God. He cries out, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me?" This individual lament is a cry of desperation, and God is not silent. He understands the grief that troubles the psalmist's heart and enters into his suffering. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, also cried out in His suffering, "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?" However, when the man or woman of faith cries out like this, it is from a fundamental conviction that God is with them and will deliver them.

We often feel that God is silent when we are screaming for help, but this is not the case. God is always listening, and He does answer all of our prayers, even if sometimes the answer is no or wait. We may not always understand why God answers our prayers the way He does, but He is always speaking to us. We need to strive to hear His voice, not just in loud, dramatic ways, but also in whispers, which we may miss if we fail to recollect ourselves and pay careful attention. By being sensitive to God's voice, we can avoid quenching it and experiencing the negative consequences that come with it. Instead, we can experience oneness with God, which is the key to a fulfilling spiritual life. Divine silence is not the same as divine absence. God is always present and always speaking, even if we don't always hear Him. We must strive to listen to Him and be sensitive to His voice, not just in loud, dramatic ways, but also in whispers. By doing so, we can avoid quenching His voice and experience the negative consequences that come with it. Instead, we can experience oneness with God, which is the key to a fulfilling spiritual life.
