Starting Over at 65: Embracing a New Chapter

As we approach the age of 65, many of us face a significant crossroads. We may feel a sense of restlessness, a desire to re-evaluate our priorities, and a longing for a fresh start. This is an opportunity to reflect on our values, goals, and relationships, and to make intentional choices about how we want to live the rest of our lives. Just as Jesus called His disciples to follow Him and learn from Him, we too can apprentice under the Lord and follow His process of training. This requires intentionality, a willingness to gear down and focus on what truly matters.

Embracing a New Era of Life

In the Bible, we see examples of people who, at a relatively advanced age, began new chapters in their lives. For instance, Moses, at the age of 120, continued to lead the Israelites despite his physical limitations. His faith and trust in God allowed him to see beyond his physical circumstances and focus on the bigger picture. Similarly, we can choose to see our 65th birthday as a new beginning, an opportunity to re-orient our lives around our values and priorities. This may involve making changes to our daily routines, our relationships, or our goals. By doing so, we can experience a sense of renewal and purpose, and live out the rest of our lives with intention and passion.

Seeking God's Guidance

As we embark on this new chapter, it's essential to seek God's guidance and wisdom. We can ask Him to help us discern our values, goals, and priorities, and to give us the courage and strength to pursue them. We can also ask Him to help us let go of things that no longer serve us, and to trust in His sovereignty over our lives. By doing so, we can experience a deeper sense of peace, joy, and fulfillment, and live out the rest of our lives with a sense of purpose and direction. As the Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). May we seek to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, and to follow His process of training, as we embark on this new chapter in our lives.
