How much more can we take?
How much more can we take?
In the parable of the rich fool, Jesus teaches us that it's not the quantity of possessions that matters, but rather our attitude towards them. The rich fool was so focused on accumulating more that he didn't even consider the needs of others. He was like a man who ate enough for two, but not for ten. He was not content with what he had, but instead, his appetite kept growing, and he wanted more. This attitude is a result of our desire for more, which can lead to a surplus dilemma. We have more than enough, but we want more, and this can lead to destructive behavior, both individually and collectively.
The Bible teaches us that we should be content with what we have and not be consumed by our desires for more. In Luke 12:15, Jesus says, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions." He also teaches us that we should give to others and be generous with what we have. In Luke 19:8, the tax collector Zacchaeus says, "Lord, I will give half of my possessions to the poor. If I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." This attitude of contentment and generosity is what we should strive for.
We can take more than we think, but only if we change our attitude towards possessions. We should be content with what we have and not be consumed by our desires for more. We should also be generous with what we have and give to others. As the Bible says, "Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you" (Luke 6:38). If we change our attitude and become more content and generous, we can take more than we think, and we can live a more fulfilling life.
