Your Question:

How much more can we take?

Answer:

I've seen this happen in my own life, and in the lives of those I've counseled at the church. When we first start down a path of sin, it can be exhilarating. But over time, the thrill wears off, and we become desensitized to its effects. We start to crave more, to feel like we need more to be satisfied. It's like a never-ending cycle of wanting more, needing more, and never being content with what we have.

I think of it like a baseball game. When the Cubs are winning, it's exhilarating. But if they keep winning, and winning, and winning, we start to take it for granted. We expect to win every game, and when we don't, we get frustrated. It's the same with sin. At first, it's exciting, but eventually, it becomes a habit, and we need more and more to feel satisfied. And that's when the trouble starts.

As a pastor, I've seen people struggle with this very issue. They start with small sins, and over time, they become bigger and more frequent. They build up a tolerance, and it takes more and more to get the same high. It's a vicious cycle, and it's hard to break. But it's not impossible. With God's help, and a willingness to change, we can overcome our sinful tendencies and find true satisfaction in Him.
