The Trust of Faith

As Christians, we are often asked to trust in things that are beyond our control. Whether it is our health, our finances, or our future, we are constantly faced with decisions that require us to have faith. The question of trusting our doctors is a great example of this. When we go to the doctor, we are placing our trust in their diagnosis and treatment plan. But what happens when things don't go as planned? What happens when the doctor's treatment doesn't work, or when we experience complications or side effects?

The Limits of Human Understanding

The Bible teaches us that we can't always trust our human understanding. In 1 Corinthians 2:14, it says, "The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." This means that there are some things that are beyond our human comprehension. When it comes to medical treatment, there are many factors at play that we can't fully understand. We can't see the inner workings of the human body, and we can't always predict how our bodies will respond to treatment. This means that we have to trust in the expertise of our doctors, even when we don't fully understand what they are doing.

The Trust of Faith in Action

So, can we really trust our doctors when they say they're doing everything they can? The answer is yes, but with a caveat. As Christians, we are called to trust in God's sovereignty and providence, even when things don't go as planned. This means that we have to trust in God's goodness and love, even when we don't understand what's happening. This trust is not blind, but it is also not based solely on human understanding. It's based on our relationship with God and our faith in His promises. As the Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." This means that we can trust our doctors, but we also have to trust in God's sovereignty and providence. We have to trust that He is working all things together for our good, even when things don't go as planned.
