Why Can't I Find Peace and Quiet?

The Struggle is Real

The struggle to find peace and quiet is a common experience for many people. It's a cry for help, a desperate longing to escape the chaos and noise of the world. The Bible acknowledges this struggle, saying, "Does your life seem completely barren to you? Then look up and receive the quiet contentment of the Lord Jesus" (Luke 10:38-42). The Lord Jesus offers a refuge from strife and a place of refreshing where we can prepare for the battle of life. But how do we find this peace and quiet?

The Wrong Approach

Many people approach the quiet with the wrong mindset. They seek peace and joy for their own enjoyment, rather than a true realization of God. They want to use God to get what they want, rather than surrendering to Him. This is the first step in the wrong direction. The quiet is not a place to find our own peace and contentment, but rather a place to find God. As the Bible says, "In the quiet, the inner roar of our world of noise, the distraction, the chaos, and all the lies fades away" (Psalm 46:10). We need to approach the quiet with a willingness to listen to God, rather than trying to impose our own will on Him.

Finding Peace and Quiet

So, how do we find peace and quiet? We need to be willing to listen to God, rather than trying to impose our own will on Him. We need to approach the quiet with a sense of surrender, rather than trying to control the situation. We need to be careful not to speak peace to ourselves before God speaks it. We need to be willing to listen to God's voice, rather than trying to dictate what He should say to us. And we need to be willing to share our struggles with others, rather than trying to face them alone. By doing so, we can find the peace and quiet that we so desperately seek. As the Bible says, "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts" (Colossians 3:15). This is the key to finding peace and quiet in a chaotic world. It's not about trying to find our own peace and contentment, but about surrendering to God and finding our peace and contentment in Him.
