Your Question:

Why did this have to happen to me at my age?

Answer:

As I sit here reflecting on my life, I'm reminded of the struggles I faced as a child. My parents, although well-intentioned, had a tendency to exasperate me with their excessive worrying and high expectations. They were convinced that I had a life-threatening heart condition, which turned out to be a misdiagnosis. This led to me missing most of second grade and being restricted from playing sports in third grade.

Looking back, I realize that their overprotectiveness and fear for my well-being made me feel insecure and sometimes bullied. My academic performance suffered as well, with a GPA under 2.0. It's a wonder I didn't give up, but thankfully, I found solace in becoming a sincere Christian in junior high school.

As I've grown older, I've come to understand that my parents' actions, although well-meaning, had a profound impact on my childhood. It's a reminder that even as a parent myself, I have the capacity to exasperate my own children, Joshua and Rebecca. Susan and I strive to be mindful of our own tendencies and patterns, so that we can provide a more balanced and loving environment for our kids.
