Biblical Answer

When we feel that God is distant, it can be a confusing and frustrating experience, especially when we need Him most. This sense of distance can be attributed to various reasons, including our own indifference or resistance to God's presence. It's possible that we may be unaware of the roadblocks that are hindering our relationship with God, such as our own sin, pride, or unbelief. In such cases, we need to examine ourselves and acknowledge the obstacles that are preventing us from experiencing God's presence. As the Bible says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13). When we genuinely seek God, He promises to be found. However, if we are not willing to surrender our pride, our doubts, or our unbelief, we may continue to experience a sense of distance from God.

Another reason for feeling God's distance is our misconception of His nature and character. We may think that God is a distant, uninvolved, or uncaring deity who is only concerned with our punishment or judgment. However, this is far from the truth. The Bible portrays God as a loving, merciful, and gracious Father who delights in us and longs to be in a personal relationship with us. As the Psalmist says, "You are near, O Lord, and all your commands are right. I long for your salvation; I put my hope in your word" (Psalm 119:151-152). God's love and presence are not dependent on our circumstances or emotions but are available to us at all times.

In addition, we may experience a sense of God's distance due to our own spiritual immaturity or lack of understanding. We may be unaware of God's sovereignty and providence, or we may struggle with the concept of His love and mercy. As the Bible says, "My people are destroyed because they lack knowledge" (Hosea 4:6). When we lack knowledge and understanding, we may feel disconnected from God, but this is not because God is distant; rather, it is because we are not yet ready to receive His love and presence. As we grow in our understanding and relationship with God, we will begin to experience His presence and love more fully. Ultimately, the key to experiencing God's presence is to seek Him with all our heart and to surrender our pride, doubts, and unbelief. When we do, we will find Him, and He will be near to us. (Jeremiah 29:13).
