Biblical Answer

The Bible says that lying is a serious sin against God. The Bible emphasizes the importance of truth and honesty in our relationships with God and with others. The book of Proverbs warns that a false witness will not go unpunished and that a person who speaks lies will not escape (Proverbs 19:5). The author of Hebrews says that it is impossible for God to lie, and that God's word embodies truth (Hebrews 6:18). Jesus said that he is the truth and that he has given us the Spirit of truth (John 14:17).

The Bible also highlights the consequences of lying. In James 1:26, it is written that if anyone considers himself religious yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless. The Bible teaches that our words have the power to build up or tear down, and that lying is a form of tearing down. In Ephesians 4:29-30, it is written that we should not let any unwholesome talk come out of our mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
