what do i do with all this guilt
The Guilt of Sin
As a Christian, I believe that guilt is a natural response to sin. When we sin, we are guilty before God, and this guilt should prompt us to confess our sins to Him. However, many people struggle with guilt, feeling overwhelmed by their past mistakes and unable to shake the feeling of condemnation. But what do we do with this guilt? How do we respond to it in a way that honors God?
Firstly, we must acknowledge that guilt is a sign of a relationship with God. When we sin, we are reminded of our dependence on God's mercy and forgiveness. This is a good thing, not a bad thing! As the Bible says, "For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that in union with him we might become the righteousness of God" (2 Corinthians 5:21). Our guilt is a reminder of our need for a Savior, and it should prompt us to seek forgiveness and restoration.
So, what do we do with our guilt? We confess it to God, and we ask for His power to change. We also confess it to others, if necessary, and we give thanks for God's delight in us as we confess. This is not about eradicating guilt, but about recognizing our need for God's mercy and forgiveness. As the Bible says, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). By acknowledging our guilt and seeking forgiveness, we can find peace and freedom from the burden of sin.
