Why did I lose my business?

I Was to Blame

As I reflect on the events that led to the loss of my business, I must acknowledge that I was to blame. My decisions, though well-intentioned at the time, were misguided and ultimately led to the downfall of my business. I made some terrible financial decisions early in my ministry that almost put Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University out of business. I was ignorant of big business procedures, but God was gracious and our ministry became stronger because of it.

Dependence on Others

However, it's not just my decisions that led to the loss of my business. I also depended on others, and that dependence was not fulfilling. I made some terrible financial decisions early in my ministry that almost put Thomas Road Baptist Church and Liberty University out of business. I was ignorant of big business procedures, but God was gracious and our ministry became stronger because of it. Furthermore, I made a foolish decision to sell my studio gear, which was a significant part of my business. I knew I would be torn between my family and the demands of my business, and I chose to sell it.

Losing Everything

In both cases, I lost everything. My financial decisions almost put my ministry out of business, and selling my studio gear meant losing a significant part of my business. However, I must emphasize that I was not just losing my business, but I was also losing my sense of purpose and direction. I had forgotten my original commission, and I had returned to a familiar, convenient place. But God had so much more for me than that. I had to come to a place of humility and recognize that my decisions were not working, and that I needed to trust in God's sovereignty and guidance. Ultimately, I had to let go of my business and trust in God's plan, even if it meant losing everything. This experience taught me the importance of trusting in God's sovereignty and guidance, even in the midst of uncertainty and loss.
