Can I still trust God after all this?

The Paradox of Trust

Trust in God is a paradox. On one hand, we are told to trust Him without wavering, knowing that He will not let us be tested more than we can stand (1 Cor. 10:13). On the other hand, we are also told that faith is not a guarantee of easy circumstances, and that sometimes God says no to our requests (Psalm 31:19). This can lead to feelings of uncertainty and doubt. However, the Bible encourages us to exercise faith in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when things don't go as planned.

The Importance of Perseverance

It's possible to develop a knack for trusting God consistently through perseverance. As we respond to God in obedience, we can grow in our ability to trust Him. This means that even when we don't see immediate results or when things don't go as planned, we can continue to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty. We can learn to take God at His word and rely on Him to do as He has promised (2 Corinthians 1:20). This is not a natural ability, but it can be developed through practice and obedience.

The Value of Trusting God

Trusting God is not just about getting what we want; it's about knowing Him as the source of all good things (Psalm 31:19). When we trust God, we are saying that we need Him, and that our search for self-satisfaction has been a failure. We are turning to the One who has been our true destination all along (Psalm 23:3). Trusting God is a strong and vigorous confidence built on the fact that He is holy love (Job 13:15). It's possible to become proficient in trusting God consistently through perseverance and obedience. This means that even when things don't go as planned, we can continue to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty.
