Why did I have to lose my business and my identity?
As a Christian, I believe that losing your business and your identity is a painful experience, but it can also be a transformative one. When we lose something that is dear to us, it can be tempting to feel a sense of loss and grief. We may wonder if we will ever be able to recover or if we will always be defined by that loss. However, as Christians, we know that our true identity is not rooted in our business or our possessions, but in our relationship with God. In fact, the Bible teaches us that our old self, our old identity, has been crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20). We are no longer the same person we used to be. We have been given a new identity, a new life, as a child of God. This new identity is not based on our accomplishments or our possessions, but on our relationship with Jesus Christ. As the apostle Paul wrote, "If anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17). This means that even when we lose something that is dear to us, we can still find our identity and purpose in Christ.
So, what do people owe us when we lose our business and our identity? They may owe us an apology or restitution, but ultimately, they owe us nothing. Our worth and our identity come from God alone. We are not defined by our possessions or our business, but by our relationship with Christ. As Christians, we are called to forgive those who have wronged us and to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. We can find our identity and purpose in Christ, and we can trust that He will give us the strength and the courage to move forward, even in the midst of loss and pain.
