Can I really start over and find a new purpose?
The Search for Purpose: A Biblical Perspective
The question of finding a new purpose in life can be a daunting one, especially when we feel stuck or uncertain about our current path. However, as followers of Jesus, we must remember that our purpose is not something we create for ourselves, but rather it is a gift from God. As the Bible says, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). Our purpose is not something we discover on our own, but rather it is revealed to us as we seek to follow God's plan for our lives.
In seeking a new purpose, we must first examine our hearts and motivations. Are we seeking to find purpose in order to satisfy our own desires or to please others? Or are we seeking to find purpose in order to glorify God and fulfill His plan for our lives? As the Bible says, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33). We must be honest with ourselves and ask if our pursuit of purpose is rooted in a desire to love and serve God, or if it is rooted in self-interest. If our purpose is not aligned with God's plan, we must be willing to adjust our course and seek His guidance.
Ultimately, finding a new purpose in life is not about creating something new, but rather about aligning ourselves with God's existing plan. As the Bible says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). We must be willing to surrender our own desires and plans and seek God's guidance and direction. As we do, we will find that our purpose is not something we create for ourselves, but rather it is a gift from God that brings us joy, fulfillment, and a sense of direction in life.
