Why did I have to go through this when I'm supposed to be blessed?

The question of why we go through trials and sufferings when we are supposed to be blessed is a common one. The Bible teaches that to be blessed is to be happy in a very full and rich sense, and that God's intention is to redeem His human creatures and return them to a condition of blessing (Gen 12:13). However, this blessing is not just a physical or emotional state, but also a spiritual one. When we turn away from God and sin, we forfeit this blessing and experience suffering instead.

As Jesus taught, we can ask ourselves if there have been particular wilful sins that have driven God away from our lives (Luke 22:53). When we sin, we experience a separation from God, which leads to suffering. However, God's desire is to redeem us and restore us to a right relationship with Him. Through our suffering, we can practice faith and trust in God, and through this, we can increase our capacity for joy in all circumstances (Rom 5:3-4). This process of suffering and faith can also amplify our prayers, allowing us to hear and be heard by God more clearly.

In the Bible, Jesus teaches that those who are blessed are those who know what they are doing and are following God's will (Luke 12:47-48). When we are walking in God's ways and following His commands, we experience blessing. However, when we are not following God's will, we experience suffering. The Bible teaches that God is sovereign over all creation, and that He allows suffering to occur in order to refine us and bring us closer to Himself. Through our trials and sufferings, we can learn to trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, and experience the blessing of being in a right relationship with Him.
