Biblical Answer

I believe that false prophets are more common than people think. The Bible warns us about the presence of false prophets in the church and in the world. In fact, the Bible says that there will be false teachers among us, who will secretly bring in damnable heresies and deny the Lord who bought them (2 Peter 2:1). These false prophets will be convincing and persuasive, but they will lead people away from the truth and into destruction.

One of the key characteristics of false prophets is their ability to give true predictions. However, this does not necessarily mean that they are true prophets. According to the Bible, false prophets can get their information from guesswork or from their lord, Satan (Deuteronomy 13:1-3). They may also use their charisma and persuasive abilities to deceive people and lead them astray. On the other hand, true prophets are servants of God who must predict with 100 percent accuracy. If they are less accurate, they are proven false and unacceptable.

The Bible also warns us about the dangers of false prophets. They can lead people into a false security and away from the truth. They can also cause division and confusion within the church. As Jesus said, many false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect (Matthew 24:24). Therefore, it is essential to be discerning and to test the spirits to see if they are from God (1 John 4:1-3). We must not follow the crowd or accept anything that seems good or appealing. Instead, we must seek the truth and follow the Lord who is the truth (John 14:6).
