Biblical Answer

The Bible teaches us that God is the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He is the One who has given us life, breath, and all things. (Acts 17:25) In this context, He is also the One who has given us our roles and responsibilities in life. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of the gifts and talents He has given us, and to use them for His glory. (1 Corinthians 4:7) This means that we are accountable to Him for how we use our time, talents, and resources.

The concept of being your own boss can be appealing, but it is not necessarily a biblical principle. In fact, the Bible teaches us that we are to submit to authority and to respect those who are placed over us. (1 Peter 2:13-14) This includes our parents, our employers, and even our government leaders. As Christians, we are called to be good citizens and to respect the laws and institutions of our society. (Romans 13:1-7) This means that we are not our own bosses, but rather we are accountable to God and to those who are placed over us.

In the context of parenting, the Bible teaches us that children are to obey their parents, even when they do not understand or agree with their decisions. (Ephesians 6:1-3) This is not because parents are perfect or infallible, but because God has given them authority over their children. As children grow and mature, they are given more responsibility and independence, but they are still accountable to their parents and to God. In the same way, as Christians we are accountable to God and to those who are placed over us, even as we seek to use our gifts and talents for His glory. Ultimately, our goal is not to be our own bosses, but to be faithful servants of God, using our lives and resources to advance His kingdom. (Matthew 6:33)
