Biblical Answer

A person can still be a good Christian if they struggle with shame. In fact, shame is a natural part of the human condition, and Christians are not immune to it. The Bible acknowledges that we are all guilty and responsible for our sinfulness, and that we have all fallen short of God's glory (Rom. 3:23). However, shame is not the same as guilt. Guilt acknowledges our sin and our need for forgiveness, while shame takes our sin and our shortcomings and defines us by them. Shame says, "I am something wrong or I am bad," while guilt says, "I have done something wrong."

A Christian who struggles with shame is not alone. In fact, the Bible teaches that those who do right and those who do wrong should both be humble and acknowledge their need for forgiveness (Rom. 2:7-9). The Bible also teaches that Christians should not be ashamed of their faith, but rather should stand firm in it (1 Peter 4:16). When we struggle with shame, we need to remember that we are not defined by our sin, but rather by our relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We are not alone in our struggles, and we can find comfort and strength in the fact that God loves us and accepts us despite our flaws.

In fact, the Bible teaches that shame can be a catalyst for growth and transformation. When we feel shame, we are forced to confront our sin and our need for forgiveness. This can lead to repentance and a deeper relationship with God. As the Bible says, "Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death" (2 Corinthians 7:10). A Christian who struggles with shame can still be a good Christian because they are acknowledging their need for forgiveness and are seeking to grow and change as a result. They are not defined by their shame, but rather by their relationship with God and their desire to follow Him.
