What did Jesus mean when he said 'Love your neighbor as yourself'?

When Jesus said, "Love your neighbor as yourself" (Lev. 19:18), he was emphasizing the importance of demonstrating love to those around us, including those who may not be like us or who may even be our enemies. This command is rooted in the Jewish tradition, but Jesus expanded its meaning to include not just fellow Israelites but also those who may be considered our enemies. He made it clear that loving our neighbor as ourselves means putting their needs and well-being above our own, just as we would want others to do for us.

Jesus' teaching on loving our neighbor as ourselves is closely tied to his command to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30).
