Biblical Answer

Living in obedience to God's will involves more than just doing good actions or following certain rules. It requires a deep and personal relationship with God, where one's will is surrendered to His will. This means that one must be willing to act solely on what God says, even if it means going against their own desires or preferences. As the Bible says, "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts" (Isaiah 55:8-9). This means that we must be willing to let go of our own understanding and submit to God's perfect plan for our lives.

One of the main obstacles to living in obedience to God's will is our own self-willed decisions. We often try to obey God based on our own understanding and preferences, rather than on what God has clearly spoken. This can lead to a lack of simplicity and unity in our lives, as we try to balance our own desires with God's will. As the Bible says, "For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will and to do what is good is not in my power, but with God's help" (Romans 7:18). This means that we must recognize our own limitations and weaknesses, and seek to obey God in humility and dependence on Him.

So, how do we know if we're living in obedience to God's will, or just living by our own standards? The answer is not to try to figure it out on our own, but to seek God's guidance and wisdom. As the Bible says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). This means that we must be willing to surrender our own will and desires to God's, and seek His guidance and direction in all areas of our lives. By doing so, we can experience the joy and peace that comes from living in obedience to God's will.
