Your Question:

How can I keep my hope alive when everything is going wrong?

Answer:

As a pastor, I've seen many people struggle with hopelessness, and I've learned that it's a common temptation to give up on hope when things seem to be going wrong. But I want to tell you that hope is not just a feeling, it's a choice. It's a choice to trust in a God who is always with us, who will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Even when we're facing difficulties, we can be optimistic because we know that God is working everything out for our good (Romans 8:28).

When I'm feeling discouraged, I remind myself of the promises of God. I think about how He has been faithful to me and my family in the past, and I trust that He will continue to be faithful in the future. I also think about the joy that is available to us even in the midst of suffering. As the Bible says, "We rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4). So, even when things seem to be going wrong, I try to focus on the hope that is available to me through Jesus Christ.

As a family man, I've also learned the importance of nurturing hope in my loved ones. My wife Susan and I have been married for 19 years, and we've had our fair share of ups and downs. But through it all, we've learned to trust in God's goodness and to hold onto hope. We've also learned to encourage each other when we're feeling discouraged. And as a father, I try to model hope for my children, Joshua and Rebecca. I want them to know that even when things seem impossible, God is always working and that He will bring good out of our struggles.
