How do we prioritize our personal goals with our responsibilities?

Setting Priorities with God at the Center

The Bible instructs us to make God our first priority. In 2 Corinthians 5:9, it says, "We make it our aim... to be well pleasing to Him." This means that our primary goal should be to please God and fulfill His purposes in our lives. To achieve this, we need to regularly assess our values and goals, asking ourselves if they align with God's will. We must also be willing to make adjustments as needed, cutting back on activities that do not contribute to our spiritual growth or hinder our relationship with God.

Examining for Inefficiency and Cutting Back

In addition to prioritizing God, we should also examine our goals and responsibilities for inefficiency and areas where we can cut back. As the Bible says, "To everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has shall be taken away" (Matthew 25:29). This means that we should focus on what is truly important and eliminate activities that do not contribute to our spiritual growth or well-being. By doing so, we can create margin in our lives and make time for what truly matters.

Starting at the Bottom and Cutting

When prioritizing our personal goals with our responsibilities, it's essential to start at the bottom and cut back on non-essential activities. This means identifying areas where we can simplify our lives and eliminate distractions. As the Bible says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). By prioritizing God and cutting back on non-essential activities, we can create space for spiritual growth and make progress in our relationship with God.
