Your Question:

What does it mean to prioritize unity over division in a world of conflicting values?

Answer:

As a pastor and a husband, I've come to realize the importance of prioritizing unity over division in our lives. When it comes to our faith, it's clear that unity is a vital aspect of our relationship with God. The Bible teaches us that dissension is a major prayer killer, and that we must make every effort to maintain the unity of Spirit (Eph. 4:3). This means that we should strive to put aside our differences and focus on what unites us in Christ.

In my own life, I've seen the benefits of prioritizing unity. My marriage to Susan has taught me the importance of reconciliation and putting the needs of others before my own. By doing so, we're able to build a stronger relationship with God and with each other. This approach to unity also extends to our church, where we strive to create an environment that welcomes and includes all members, regardless of their background or perspective. By doing so, we're able to build a stronger, more unified community that's centered on Christ.

However, I also believe that unity must be grounded in shared values and doctrine. As a Christian, I believe that we must resolutely oppose any attempts to broaden the definition of unity to include those who are not in agreement with the essentials of biblical Christianity. This means that we must be willing to have difficult conversations and disagreements, but ultimately, we must prioritize unity in the face of division. As the apostle Paul wrote, "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace" (Eph. 4:3).
