Understanding the Relationship Between Faith and Financial Struggles

When facing financial struggles, it's natural to wonder if being a good Christian means being debt-free or financially secure. However, this perspective overlooks the true nature of Christian living. Christianity is not about avoiding financial problems, but about trusting God in the midst of them. As the Bible says, "If you face a medical or financial crisis, keep your eye on what God wants to do through you and those around you, not on the technical, grim details" (emphasis added). This means focusing on the spiritual growth and opportunities that arise from our struggles, rather than just seeking financial relief.

The Sufficiency of Christ in Times of Need

The Bible teaches that Christ is sufficient to meet our needs, including financial ones. When we put our trust in Him, we can be confident that He will provide for us, even in the midst of financial struggles. As the apostle Paul wrote, "My God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). This doesn't mean that we won't face financial difficulties, but it means that we can face them with faith and trust in God's provision. When we seek to serve the Lord and trust Him for our financial needs, we can be assured that He will provide for us, even if it's not in the way we expect.

So, can you still be a good Christian with all these medical bills? The answer is yes. In fact, being a Christian means trusting God in the midst of our struggles, rather than just avoiding them. When we face financial difficulties, we can choose to focus on the spiritual growth and opportunities that arise from our struggles, rather than just seeking financial relief. By trusting in Christ and seeking to serve Him, we can live a life of faith, even in the midst of financial struggles. As the Bible says, "I will give you the full treatment. That is why He warned people to count the cost before becoming Christians. Make no mistake, He says, if you let me, I will make you perfect" (emphasis added). This means that, as Christians, we can face our struggles with confidence, knowing that God is working in us and through us to make us perfect in His eyes.
