The Importance of Reflecting on Our Values

In uncertain times, our values are constantly being challenged. It is essential to take a continual look at our values and assess whether they are helping or hindering us in achieving our goals. As parents, we often teach our children values that we hope they will adopt as they grow up. These values tell us what things should be like, not just what they are like. For example, most parents teach their children that honesty is always the best policy, even if it's difficult or unpopular.

Embracing Uncertainty and Trusting in God

Uncertainty can be frustrating, but it can also work in us a trusting that we sink not into despair. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). When we face uncertain times, we must dig deeper than charting or anticipating social change. We need to think hard, ponder, and assess the options in light of the sharpest reasoning and the best available evidence. Ultimately, we must trust in God's sovereignty and goodness, even when we don't understand what's happening.

Proactively Navigating Failure and Change

When we face failure or change, it's easy to feel as if we've made a wrong choice or that our plans are doomed. However, we must remember that God is always working in us and through us, even in our failures. We can get proactive about a new strategy to handle failure by praying and asking God to help us react by faith to any future failures. We must also apply our new strategy to the next failure, and trust that God will use it for our good. As the Bible says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). By trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, we can navigate uncertain times with confidence and faith.
