Understanding God's Forgiveness

The Bible teaches that God forgives us through the blood of Jesus Christ His Son. In 1 John 1:7, it is written, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." This means that no matter what we have done, God will forgive us. However, our perception of forgiveness can be distorted by our own guilt, shame, and self-loathing. We may think that we must earn forgiveness through our own efforts, or that God's forgiveness is conditional on our good behavior. But the Bible teaches that God's forgiveness is not based on our worthiness, but on His own mercy and love.

Recognizing the Gift of Forgiveness

So, how do we know if God has forgiven us? It is not enough to simply feel forgiven, or to assume that we are forgiven because we have been a good person. Rather, we must trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. When we receive Christ as our Savior, we are forgiven once and for all. However, this does not mean that we are automatically freed from the power of sin. We must continue to confess our sins and failures to God, and trust in His forgiveness. As we do this, we will notice that certain weaknesses or sins keep popping up, and we must ask God to help us overcome them.

Walking in Forgiveness

So, what does it mean to walk in forgiveness? It means that we must make God the center of our hourly choices. We must confess our sins and failures to God, and trust in His forgiveness. We must also ask God to help us overcome our weaknesses and sins. As we do this, we will experience the joy and freedom that comes from knowing that we are forgiven. We will no longer be held captive by guilt and shame, but will be able to live a life that is pleasing to God. So, Christian friend, do you really believe that you are forgiven? Do you trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross? If so, then you can walk in forgiveness and experience the joy and freedom that comes from knowing that you are forgiven.
