Understanding Your Future from a Biblical Perspective

As we ponder the question of our future, it's essential to consider what God's Word says about it. According to the Bible, our future is not left to chance or luck. Rather, it's under the sovereign control of our loving and wise heavenly Father (Proverbs 16:9, Jeremiah 29:11). This means that every event, good or bad, is not a mere accident, but rather an opportunity for us to trust in God's goodness and faithfulness. When we attribute events to luck or chance, we neglect the reality of God's sovereignty and providence in our lives.

Making Our Own Purpose and Joy

From a biblical perspective, we are not left to create our own purpose and joy in life. Rather, God has a plan for us to live a life that reflects His values and teachings. As the apostle Paul wrote, "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do" (Ephesians 2:10). This means that our purpose is not self-defined, but rather it's rooted in our relationship with God and the work He has prepared for us to do. When we seek to find our purpose in our career or other earthly pursuits, we may find temporary fulfillment, but ultimately, it will disappoint us. Our true purpose and joy are found in our relationship with Christ, who has given us everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Reflecting on Our Future from a Biblical Perspective

As we reflect on our future, we should ask ourselves, "Who or what am I becoming?" (Romans 8:29). Are we becoming more like Christ, or are we drifting away from Him? The Bible teaches us to set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:2). We should envision ourselves at an older age, say seventy, eighty, or a hundred, and ask, "What kind of person do I see on the horizon?" Is it a person who is living a life that reflects God's values and teachings, or is it someone who is drifting away from God? By reflecting on our future from a biblical perspective, we can gain a deeper understanding of God's plan for our lives and live a life that is pleasing to Him. Ultimately, our future is not just about what happens to us, but about who we become in Christ.
