Is it wrong to wish for a different diagnosis?

From a biblical perspective, it is not wrong to wish for a different diagnosis. In fact, it is a natural human response to desire a better outcome. The Bible acknowledges that life is full of challenges and uncertainties, and it encourages us to trust in God's sovereignty and providence (Romans 8:28). While we may wish for a different diagnosis, we must also recognize that God is in control and that His plans for us are good, even when they are difficult to understand (Jeremiah 29:11).

Wishing for a different diagnosis does not necessarily imply a lack of faith or trust in God. Rather, it is a manifestation of our humanity and our desire for a better life. The Bible teaches us to pray for God's will to be done in our lives, even when we do not understand what that means (Matthew 6:10). In fact, Jesus himself prayed in the garden of Gethsemane, "Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me" (Matthew 26:39). Jesus' prayer was not a rejection of God's will, but rather a request for a different outcome that would still be in line with God's sovereign plan.

Ultimately, the question of whether it is wrong to wish for a different diagnosis is not about the act of wishing itself, but about our underlying motivations and attitudes. If we wish for a different diagnosis because we are trying to take control of our lives and circumstances, or because we are trying to avoid suffering, then that may be a problem. However, if we wish for a different diagnosis because we are trusting in God's goodness and sovereignty, and because we want to see His glory and purposes fulfilled in our lives, then that is a different story altogether. As the Bible says, "We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4).
